Spoiler Alert: This article contains full spoilers for One Piece Episode 1156.
It’s been months with no One Piece anime, and yeah, you can feel it now that it’s seasonal, with only around 20+ episodes a year and almost 1 manga chapter per episode. Meanwhile, other anime drop 12 episodes and call it a season, while One Piece “Season 1” is basically over 1000 episodes, which is just insane. Now, in the manga, the story moves forward fast after Egghead, and we finally get what fans have been waiting for. The Elbaf Arc officially begins, but right away, something feels off.
A Banquet with Giants

Episode 1156 opens with the Straw Hats celebrating with the giants as they head toward Elbaf, bringing back that classic One Piece vibe with drinks, laughs, and stories. It also hits different because this is something Luffy and Usopp have been dreaming about since way back, and now it’s actually happening. For a moment, everything feels calm after the chaos of Egghead, like a well-earned break. But that peaceful feeling doesn’t last, because outside this celebration, the world is already shifting.
Here’s what they talked about during the banquet:
- Oimo and Kashii explain how Dorry and Brogy returned to Elbaf
- The giants are still fully committed to their century-long duel
- The crew enjoys a rare moment of peace after Egghead
- Luffy and Usopp are hyped because this is the adventure to Elbaf they’ve been dreaming about since way back
Even though the crew got to relax for a bit, it’s clear this calm won’t last. Big events are already happening in the world, and the story is about to shift from celebration to serious moves.
Shanks vs Bartolomeo: The Poison Loyalty Test
Things get tense fast. Bartolomeo burned Shanks’ flag, and the Red-Haired Pirates immediately put him and his crew in their place. They got wrecked, showing just how dangerous Yonko territory really is. Then Hongo gave Bartolomeo a bottle of poison meant for Luffy—something that could’ve killed him if he followed orders. Without thinking twice, Bartolomeo drinks it himself, proving he’s 100% loyal to Luffy.
Of course, it wasn’t real poison—everyone knows Luffy and Shanks are friends—but it still shows how far Bartolomeo will go for Luffy. Shanks smiles and tells Ben Beckman he’s happy to see people who genuinely respect Luffy. Barto’s crew jokes about how crazy Yonkos should be and how soft Shanks actually is.
But the lesson isn’t over. Yasopp told Shanks to step back and told him that they still need to pay the price, then fired one shot that destroyed Bartolomeo’s ship in a single hit. Just like that, off the coast of Gartel Island, the ship of Barto Club Pirates was destroyed, and their status is unknown, proving even loyalty doesn’t make Yonko territory safe.
Blackbeard Pirates Make Their Move
After Blackbeard returned to Hachinosu, he was pissed at Avalo Pizarro for letting Koby and Moria escape. But he got happier when he heard that Garp had been taken down and captured by Kuzan. Kuzan made it clear that it was a team effort, showing that the Blackbeard crew really had Garp outnumbered.
Garp fought these Blackbeard Pirates while saving Koby / Marines:
- Aokiji (Kuzan) — Led the clash and ultimately captured Garp, saying he tried to kill him.
- Shiryu — He sneaked up on Koby, knowing Garp would jump in to save him, and stabbed Garp.
- Sanjuan Wolf — Giant member of the crew involved in the battle (later seen helping with cleanup).
- Vasco Shot — He attacked Garp with his fire-spitting ability, trying to take him down during the chaos.
- Avalo Pizarro — Tried to attack Koby’s ship and the Marines, but Garp stepped in with his Galaxy Divide, stopping him in his attack.
The Blackbeard Pirates also captured Charlotte Pudding. She’s part of the Three-Eye Tribe, which makes her a huge deal — people from this tribe can potentially achieve a “true awakening” with their third eye, letting them hear the Voice of All Things and even read Poneglyphs. Pudding’s a hybrid, so it’s unclear if she can reach that full awakening.

At the same time, San Juan Wolf shows up doing reconstruction work on the island, but because he’s so massive, he accidentally knocks over buildings with his butt instead of fixing them.

Blackbeard called Lafitte to ask what the Revolutionary Army was up to. Lafitte reported that their siege on Mary Geoise was causing food shipments to break down and supply lines to collapse, basically making the Celestial Dragons starve. Even the Bondolas at the Red Port kept breaking when loaded with food, and even if the Navy managed to secure something, the Bondolas heading to Mary Geoise kept crashing.
Lafitte couldn’t help but laugh at the chaos, but Blackbeard told him to stop enjoying it and get ready. What are they planning next?
Catarina Devon and Van Augur arrived at Hachinosu with Caribou tagging along. Caribou begged them to take him to Blackbeard, claiming he had valuable information about the Ancient Weapons — things he overheard during his travels with the Straw Hats, including hints about where some of the weapons might be hidden. If given a chance, he could tell Teach something crucial. Meanwhile, Avalo Pizarro handled bringing their ship in for the meeting, showing he’s in charge of transport and positioning for the crew.
Monkey D. Garp is Alive!

Even after going up against the Blackbeard Pirates, Monkey D. Garp is now confirmed alive! He fought hard to let Koby and the Marines escape. He fought against Kuzan(Aokiji), Shiryu, Vasco Shot, Sanjuan Wolf, and Avalo Pizarro. It was a total team effort from the Blackbeard crew, as Kuzan stated. Despite being outnumbered and overpowered, Garp survived, showing once again why he’s a legend of the Marines. The big question now is, did Kuzan spare his life, or is there more to this capture?
The Thousand Sunny Disappears: Half of the Crew is Gone
They haven’t even arrived at Elbaf, but the Thousand Sunny suddenly vanished along with half the crew. Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Sanji, and Chopper are all gone. The rest of the crew is shocked, trying to figure out what just happened and trying to find where they are. Also, it’s nice to get a bit of nostalgia seeing only the East Blue saga crew together again, even if only for a short moment.
Nami Finds Herself Alone

The chapter ends with a strange and eerie scene. Nami wakes up alone in a room that looks like it’s made of giant LEGO-like pieces, wearing a Viking-style outfit. She has no idea where she is or who brought her there. And that’s the point — this arc doesn’t start with answers, it starts with a mystery.
Final Thoughts
Episode 1156 opens with celebrations, chaos, and mystery all at once. The Straw Hats finally get a fun moment with the giants, but outside, the world keeps shifting, and big moves are already in motion.
Key moments include:
- The Straw Hats finally celebrate heading toward Elbaf, but half the crew disappears, leaving a major mystery.
- Bartolomeo proves his loyalty to Luffy by drinking the poison meant for him, while Shanks reminds everyone how dangerous Yonko territory is.
- The Blackbeard Pirates are making their move.
- Garp is alive, but Kuzan’s intentions remain unclear.
- Nami wakes up alone in a strange LEGO-like room, starting the arc with a mystery rather than answers.
This episode leaves more questions than answers. Where did half the Straw Hats go? Is Nami in Elbaf or somewhere completely unexpected? Episode 1157 might finally show where the crew disappeared to and what Nami’s LEGO-like room really means.
